Soothing a Fussy Baby at Home

Start with the basics

A diaper change, a feed in response to hunger cues, or quieter surroundings may help. Try gentle rocking or softly singing while holding your baby securely.

A safe pause is allowed

If frustration rises, place your baby on their back in a clear crib or bassinet and take a short break. Call a trusted adult for help. Never shake or hit a baby.

Ask for medical help

Contact your child’s doctor about persistent or unusual crying, feeding problems, poor weight gain, or signs of illness. Do not assume every episode is colic.

Need a thermometer?

The right measurement method depends on age. Our guide compares a digital stick model with an ear model for children 6 months and older.
