How do I end screen time without a daily battle?

Build a shared plan and protect time for the rest of life.

Quick Answer

Agree on media rules ahead of time, include your child’s perspective, and follow the rules yourself.

See The Practical Steps

Resources

Two fathers and their child build with blocks after putting a tablet aside.

Make the plan together

Discuss how devices fit around meals, sleep, movement, school, and connection. Specify when screens are put away and which content is appropriate.

Support the transition

Respond calmly when stopping is hard. Offer a familiar activity or space to settle. A timer helps some children; do not assume every child benefits from the same warning.

Know when to get support

Talk with your pediatrician if media use is affecting sleep, eating, friendships, or everyday coping, or if nearly every stopping point ends in a major meltdown.
